Photographer Vision
Vision. It’s sense of seeing the physical world. It’s a mindful sense of feeling an idea. Vision is an Avenger who once held the Mind Stone. Now before this turns into an Avengers blog post, let me share something a bit more relevant to my “super powers”. Photographer vision.
Photographer vision is complex and consists of many elements…much like the Infin….no, no. Actually, yes, I’m going to say it. Photographer vision can harness powers relatable to the Infinity Stones. This is going to be a stretch but here we go.
Time Stone - The power to control time. A photographer has the ability the stop time, a moment frozen in time. Now while a photographer can’t literally turn back time like Cher, a photographer’s creation can be a reminder of a past event. Which leads me to the;
Mind Stone - Psychic power and mind control. As mentioned in my opening sentences, an experienced photographer’s vision can sometimes sense a subject’s reaction. He/she can see how an event will play out and be in the right place at the right time. Ok, so most of this skill is honed by earlier planning before an event starts, but I gotta commit to the comparison! Speaking of being at the right place;
Space Stone - Teleportation and travel the universe(s). I nor any photographer can teleport yet. But we can have discreet ninja skills of moving from one side of say a ballroom or venue. We can also use different focal lengths to create the illusion of being up close from further away. Thanks telephoto lenses! Ah, see? teleportation. Or should I say, telephotation!
Power Stone - Unlimited stength and control energy. Ok well, this one really isn’t part of a photographer’s vision, but we run on caffeine and carry heavy camera bags. And as I’m writing this blog post, I’m questioning the “unlimited” aspect.
Reality Stone - Manipulate reality and laws of physics. There is a lot more going on in a photog’s mind than is perceived by an observer. Photographers’ literal vision can see and compose the moments of an event through different angles such as using the foreground creatively to create depth. Frame the subject in a way attendees did not notice or experience. Creative exposures, lighting and post processing artistic effects to create altered realities to invoke different feelings or the, ahem, “soul” of a photograph.
And finally,
Soul Stone -The power to steal and control souls. Disclaimer* Some cultures have believed that photography and cameras can steal souls. I’m not trying to be insensitive to that. With the theme of this post, well created photographs can affect viewers’ emotions to create a powerful message or a beautiful memento.
We photographers aren’t Thanos, but our vision can be considered our gauntlet. And when we snap away, we create your pixels and capture your memories.
